POWELLS POINT, N.C.

The much-anticipated H2OBX Waterpark in Currituck County will make its debut on the official first day of summer.

The company announced Friday on Facebook that the park will open June 21, a Wednesday. It was originally planned for Memorial Day weekend.

“We’re ready for the most EPIC Summer the Outer Banks has ever seen,” H20BX officials said in the post.

The $46 million park designed by New York-based Aquatic Development Group will include more than 20 slides, an “adventure river,” four “activity pools” with ropes, a 450,000-gallon wave pool and rentable cabanas, The Pilot has reported. It sits on a mostly rural tract just across U.S. 158 from The Pointe Golf Club.

If the park expands later to cover the owner’s entire 95-acre property, it could become the largest water park in the country.

The site is expected to see a daily attendance of around 5,000.

Visitors can buy season passes and reserve tickets online. A day pass for those 42 inches or taller will cost $50 and $45 for those shorter. Children under 2 enter free.
